The Erlkings
Beatrice Berrut, piano
Sophie Heinrich, violin
Ivan Turkalj, cello
‘Haydnfeld’ is the title of the latest programme by the art song quartet The Erlkings. It conveys a collection of songs by Joseph Haydn telling the story of the fictitious village of the same name. Populated by colourful characters of all kinds, Haydnfeld forms the unifying backdrop for songs about love, betrayal, death, existential inertia and the longing for the pleasures of a simple country life. Arranged for voice, guitar, cello, tuba, percussion and vibraphone, together with the skilful playfulness for which The Erlkings have become known, this programme invites the audience to experience the world of Haydn's Viennese classical music as never before.
The excursion to Haydnfeld is contrasted with the classical piano trio line-up in the Haydn Hall of Esterházy Palace. In this case, it consists of Beatrice Berrut, the pianist who will enchant us with her programme "Abracadabra" on Saturday morning, violinist Sophie Heinrich, known at Keys to Heaven as a member of Tango5 from last year's opening concert, and Ivan Turkalj, who breaks through the supposed genre boundaries with charm and good humour not only as part of The Erlkings, but also in his other musical projects.
An interplay of trio movements by the classical grand master Joseph Haydn and the imaginative, modern realisation of his musical legacy.
